Humanity is more beautiful than any place I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been lucky enough to travel to every continent on the planet.

It’s the people I meet and the stories they have to tell which inspires me to travel more and more these days. For more than 20 years I was a journalist, based in my home country, New Zealand. A few years ago I gave it all up, in search of a more fulfilling way to capture a yarn – and so Wilde On was born.

If you’re looking for the more usual travel blogger, with self-indulgent selfies and stories which seem to inspire jealousy more than curiosity – then move along. I’m not that kind of person. Firstly, I’m in my mid 40’s and I don’t have the tanned beach body which favours the Instagram likes. Secondly, I like to use my skills as a journalist to go beyond the showiness of a destination and allow the people bring it to life.

I’m seriously amazed at the generous and open people I have met on my travels. Many people are afraid to travel. They believe the world is a hostile and dangerous place. But while you have to be careful and respectful – I’ve found the world to be the opposite. Whether you’re an intrepid traveller yourself, or dream of being one someday, I hope you enjoy my true stories of how I see the world and the people who call it home.

I mostly fund all my travel adventures myself. I also work with select companies, who fit well with my own ethos. If you like my stuff, then consider becoming one of my Patreon supporters. Patreon is a membership platform, which allows creators like me to continue to bring people like you compelling content. 2019 is going to be huge year for me as I embark on a 12-month journey. I’m planning an overland odyssey, from London across Europe, into Turkey and Iran. From there I’ll head north into The Stans, Mongolia and China. Then down through South East Asia, with a goal of reaching Indonesia. This has been a dream of mine for many years. To break away from the day-to-day grind and see the people of the world at a slower pace. At least slow enough to absorb, feel and learn. I’m currently planning the logistics of this trip. Selling up and gifting away most of my things. The heartening aspect is that my family and friends are all very supportive.

It means so much to me that you are following my journey. At times it’s going to be difficult and lonely – so don’t be a stranger, get in touch with me below and you can keep me company while I’m on the road. Who knows, if my path crosses yours, we can meet up. I believe everyone has a story to tell – why not let me tell yours?

Until we meet, all the best.
